Xiaomi may be developing a small-screen smartphone for the company’s Redmi sub-brand that will deliver near-flagship performance, according to the speaker’s claims. The alleged Redmi device is believed to have a compact form factor and may have the same screen size as the Xiaomi 14, which is part of the company’s flagship smartphone lineup. However, it may lack some features like wireless charging or a telephoto camera that are staples of flagship phones.

Responding to a query on Chinese social media platform Weibo about Redmi entering the flagship smartphone market, a Digital Chat Station insider (translated from Chinese) suggested that the company actually has plans to do so. The rumored handset will have a compact form factor with a 6.3-inch display similar to the Xiaomi 14.
The informant further hinted that it will be a high-performance sub-flagship phone. However, the Chinese smartphone maker can still cut corners. For example, it is believed to have lost two key features: wireless charging and a telephoto lens. The alleged Redmi compact smartphone is expected to pack a 6,000mAh battery.
Notably, this event comes days after Xiaomi 15 specifications were leaked online, hinting at its imminent launch in China.

According to the report, the Xiaomi 15 could feature a 6.36-inch flat AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. In terms of optics, the smartphone may feature a Leica triple primary camera that includes a 50-megapixel OmniVision OV50H sensor, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 50-megapixel 3.2x telephoto camera.
It may run on Snapdragon 8 Elite (commonly known as Snapdragon 8 Gen 4) chipset under the hood and may run on HyperOS 2.0 based on Android 15. The phone is said to be backed by a 5500mAh battery with 90W wired power support. and 50W fast wireless charging.
