Vivo has unveiled its latest operating system (OS) called Origin OS 5 for its range of devices in China. The update is said to be based on Android 15 and include features such as home screen and lock screen customization, dynamic effects and an updated Little V assistant with new features. Origin OS 5 also introduces a Dynamic Island feature called Atomic Island. Artificial intelligence (AI) features for video editing, real-time translation and writing tools have also been rolled out.
Notably, the Origin OS 5 update comes after Vivo and iQOO rolled out the Funtouch OS 15 update globally, bringing Android 15 to their devices.
Vivo Origin OS 5 features
One of the most notable additions to the Vivo Origin OS 5 update is the revamped Little V assistant. It brings functionality similar to Google’s Circle-to-Search, which allows the user to highlight a part of the screen by circling it and switching it to visually search the web. They can also save articles and videos in the assistant for quick access.
Vivo says its assistant can take calls on the user’s behalf and summarize them, take notes and provide transcription in multiple languages. It also offers writing tools that can be used in Atom Notes, Vivo Documents, and emails.
Origin OS 5 includes customization options for the home screen and lock screen, including situational wallpapers. Users can edit the lock screen and replace control switches. The appearance of the OS can be customized with different materials, colors, layouts and depth effects. Mood Wallpapers 2.0 has also been introduced with two special wallpapers: Fireworks Moment and Mountain and Sea Landscape, which use AI to recognize characters and dynamically adjust the scenery based on the time of day and weather conditions.
The vivo Sans font has been improved for better readability. Vivo also introduced Greek and Cyrillic writing systems, covering up to 26 languages.
Changes have also been made to apps like Weather, which now provides dynamic visual effects based on conditions. It can display dynamic weather components of rain and snow.
Origin OS 5’s AI capabilities include Dialect Text Translation, which can recognize multi-dialect content in a voice and convert it into Mandarin. It can also support Chinese sign language sentences with sign language recognition and virtual sign language creation. Using the smartphone’s AI assistant, users can take photos and query information about it in real time.

Vivo says Origin OS 5 will be available to the public in beta in November for the following devices in China:
