The Microsoft GPT Builder feature for Copilot Pro subscribers will be discontinued by July 14th

Microsoft is retiring its artificial intelligence (AI) agent builder GPT Builder along with support for Copilot GPT. The tech giant has announced that the feature will be removed from the Copilot Pro subscription package between July 10 and 14. After its removal, subscribers will also lose access to the GPTs they created. The company did not share any reasons behind bringing back the feature. Namely, GPT Builders was introduced just three months ago, when Microsoft launched Copilot Pro subscription in global markets.

Microsoft will retire GPT Builder in Copilot Pro

In a support document, Microsoft has now confirmed that the feature will be removed. It said: “Microsoft will remove the ability to create GPTs starting on July 10, 2024, and then remove all GPTs (created by Microsoft and users) along with their associated GPT data also starting on July 10, 2024. until July 14, 2024.”

GPT Builder was introduced as a tool that would allow Copilot Pro subscribers to create mini chatbots for specific purposes. These GPTs, also known as artificial intelligence agents, can be created with specific instructions and knowledge bases.

Because of their small size, they adhere effectively to guidelines. For example, a Copilot GPT can be created to analyze research papers and find inconsistencies in them. At the time of launch, Microsoft said that these GPTs can also be used to save time by reusing a set of AI queries.

Microsoft will focus on the core functionality of Copilot

While the company didn’t give any reason for removing the feature, it emphasized that it is evaluating its Copilot extensibility strategy and will prioritize core product experiences for Copilot for now. Interestingly, GPT will continue to be offered to Microsoft’s commercial and enterprise customers and is only being retired for the consumer-focused AI platform.

Microsoft has also asked users to save the instructions for any Copilot GPTs created before July 10, as the GPTs and data will not be available after that. To see the instructions, users can open GPT in edit mode and go to Configure tab. The company said it will delete all subscriber data collected by Copilot GPT from its servers.

In India, Copilot Pro subscription costs Rs. 2000 per month. Microsoft also shared details in case users want to cancel their subscription.
