The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset with a dedicated AI NPU will be launched in China on October 9

MediaTek will launch its flagship mobile chipset in China on October 9, the company confirmed on social media. While the chipmaker didn’t go into detail about its upcoming smartphone processor, it’s widely believed to be the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC, which was recently claimed to be more powerful than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and even Apple’s latest A18 Pro chipset by comparison. in terms of GPU benchmarks.

In a post on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, MediaTek’s official manager said that “a new generation of MediaTek’s flagship chipset is coming soon.” The premiere will take place on October 9 at 10:30 local time. Although the company did not reveal the details of the chipset, it is confirmed to be equipped with a special Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that provides artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.

A recent report suggests that the alleged MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC may outperform other flagship mobile processors such as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and the new Apple A18 Pro in certain aspects. It reportedly scored 134fps in the GFX Aztec 1440p off-screen Vulcan test — about 86 percent higher than the A18 Pro.

The figure is also said to be 41 percent higher than that of the flagship processor of the current generation Snapdragon. The dedicated NPU on the Dimensity 9400 SoC can offer a 40 percent performance jump over its predecessor.

In addition to the computing power, the performance of the alleged MediaTek chipset has reportedly been improved. Compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the Dimensity 9400 requires only 30 percent more power to perform similar tasks.

However, these upgrades may come at a price — smartphones with this chipset may be more expensive than their predecessors. Oppo’s Find X8 series is believed to be one of the first phones to get the Dimensity 9400 chipset, while Vivo’s rumored X200 series could also have models powered by MediaTek’s upcoming mobile processor.
