Warner Bros. has confirmed that the Hogwarts Legacy sequel will tie into the Harry Potter TV series HBO is currently working on. David Haddad, president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, said in an interview published on Tuesday that the studio developing the game is coordinating with the team working on the Max Original series based on the Wizarding World IP. Continuing “Hogwarts Legacy” remains a “very big priority” for WB, Haddad said, echoing comments made by Warner Bros. CFO. Discovery by Gunnar Wiedenfels in September.

Speaking to Variety, Haddad said the huge success of Hogwarts Legacy has prompted WB to lean heavily on the Harry Potter intellectual property with new HBO series, video games and merchandise. The executive has confirmed that the sequel to Hogwarts Legacy, which is currently in development, will tie into the Harry Potter Max series. According to the report, Hogwarts Legacy developer Avalanche Software “coordinated some of the big-picture narrative elements” in the game’s sequel with narrative elements in HBO’s Harry Potter series.
Haddad reiterated that the Hogwarts Legacy sequel was a “very high priority” for Warner Bros., as the first game signaled the franchise’s potential. “We’ve known for a while that fans are looking for more things in this world, so we spend a lot of time thinking about that,” Haddad told the publication. “The rest of the company was very interested in what we helped unlock with Hogwarts Legacy last year,” he added.
In September, the financial director of Warner Bros. Discovery’s Gunnar Wiedenfels said that a direct sequel to “Hogwarts Legacy” is the main goal of the studio in the coming years. “Obviously, the heir to the Hogwarts legacy is one of the biggest priorities for several years,” Wiedenfels said at the 2024 Bank of America Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference.
Hogwarts Legacy, the open-world action-adventure that tells the original Harry Potter story, was a big success for Warner Bros. Games. A report from Variety confirmed that the game had sold over 30 million copies as of October 2024. Hogwarts Legacy was the best-selling game of 2023, with 22 million copies sold by the end of the year.
HBO’s Harry Potter TV series, announced last year, will be based on the seven Harry Potter books, ushering in a new era for the franchise. The series will reportedly run for ten consecutive years and will air on HBO in 2026.
The Hogwarts Legacy sequel, on the other hand, has no confirmed launch dates. Warner Bros. Games, however, continued to release other games based on the Harry Potter IP. In September, the studio released Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, a game dedicated to the magical sport from the wizarding world on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X.
