Google usually unveils its Pixel A series smartphones at the annual Google I/O event in May every year. However, early reports suggest that the Pixel 9a will hit shelves earlier than usual, with pre-orders starting in mid-March 2025. The tech giant may permanently move the release cycle of the A series to the new March deadline. Google released the Pixel 9 family in August, about two months earlier than the usual October.

Android Headlines, citing multiple sources, reports that Google will begin accepting pre-orders for the Pixel 9a around mid-March 2025. The phone will reportedly be available in stores by the end of the same month. Shipments will also begin by the end of March next year. This launch schedule is two months earlier than the previous announcements of the Pixel A series that took place during the Google I/O event in May.

Google may continue its early launch trend

A March release date seems possible, as Google has pushed back the launch schedule for the rest of the Pixel 9 series by two months. The Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold were unveiled in August, contrary to the traditional release period of October.

Furthermore, the report suggests that these early dates will be a permanent timeline for the launch of the Pixel A series. This means that the alleged Pixel 10a could be launched in March 2026.

Google’s Pixel 9a is expected to have a built-in rear camera housing without Google’s signature camera visor. It is said to have porcelain (white), iris (blue-violet), obsidian (black), and peony (pink) hues.

The successor to the Pixel 8a could debut with Android 15 and receive updates for seven years. It is expected to run on the Tensor G4 chipset.
