Last week, Google rolled out Android 15 to eligible Pixel smartphones, but the update appears to have affected the older model, the Pixel 6. Some owners reported that the latest software update “bricked” their smartphone, rendering it unusable. While some users claim that the problem occurred after they enabled the new feature introduced in Android 15, other users claim that their phones stopped working while using it. The Pixel 6 previously suffered from multiplayer bugs that also caused some devices to lock up.
Pixel 6 owners are reporting that the Android 15 update has bricked their phones
Recent user posts on Reddit (via Android Police ) suggest that some Pixel 6 devices have been affected by the Android 15 update, causing them to stop working. User u/GegoByte claims he enabled Private Space after updating his phone to Android 15, but the smartphone stopped working after unlocking and opening an app stored in the new secure area.
The user also says that Google’s technical instructions for restarting the phone did not work on their Pixel 6 device. Another user responded to u/GegoByte’s post saying that their phone stopped working while they were browsing Reddit and that a technician was unable to repair the phone.
Similarly, Reddit user u/Homer_95 claims that his Pixel 6 Pro stopped working while using the phone with the battery level around 45 percent. The user also claims that he was unable to turn on the phone using Google’s troubleshooting tools and edited his post to indicate that it was related to the Private Space feature. Another user responded to the post, revealing that he was facing the same issue with his Pixel 6 Pro.
However, it is currently unclear whether Pixel 6 owners are affected by the Private Space feature, as some owners who never used the feature after updating to Android 15 are also complaining that their smartphones have stopped working. User u/WesternConfection435 says their Pixel 6 was bricked after seeing two “blue static bars” at the top of the screen. They also claim that they were unable to use the smartphone as the display did not turn on after the incident.
This isn’t the first update issue to hit Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro owners — the Android 14 update that rolled out to Pixel phones last year caused several models to become unusable due to a memory bug . Google eventually released a software update for the affected models, which also included some Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, and Pixel 8 Pro devices.
