Google released the Pixel Weather app with the Pixel 9 line in August at its annual Made by Google event. The app is now making its way to older Pixel smartphones, including the Pixel 6 and later, as well as the Pixel Table. All supported devices are getting the Pixel Weather app as part of the October feature release. Users can access the weather forecast with Pixel Weather, which includes a customized detail page, alerts, and summaries. Eligible Pixel phone users can see the new Google Weather app as an update in the Play Store.
Google is releasing the Pixel Weather app for older Pixel phones
As part of the latest October Pixel Feature Drop, the Pixel Weather app is expanding to more Pixel devices, as spotted by 9to5Google. All Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel 8 models are eligible for the new app. Also supported are the Pixel A series phones, including the Pixel 6a, Pixel 7a, Pixel 8a, and the Google Pixel Tablet.
An update to the Pixel Weather app should be available on the Google Play Store. At the time of writing, the version number available in India was 1.0.20240910.687035637.
The app also provides an AI-generated weather overview with tips and includes a customizable detail page, alerts and summaries. Through the app, users can get a 10-day forecast, air quality index (AQI), humidity, weather map and pollen count. The pollen count feature is currently exclusive to certain markets, including the UK, Germany, France and Italy. It also offers AI generated weather backgrounds and rainfall maps.
Once installed, a new Weather icon will be available in the app bar. Users must allow Pixel Weather for notifications and exact location. Tapping profile avatar > Pixel Weather settings will set the app as your primary source of weather alerts.
At the Made by Google 2024 event, Google launched a standalone weather app. The app uses Gemini Nano — Google’s artificial intelligence model — for custom weather reports. It was previously exclusive to the Pixel 9 series of phones, including the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
