Stellar Blade has sold over 1 million copies, PC version plans under consideration: report

Stellar Blade, an action-adventure from debut studio Shift Up, has reportedly sold a million units since its release in April. The developer made the announcement on Tuesday at its initial public offering (IPO) press conference. Shift Up also reportedly revealed that plans for a PC port of Stellar Blade, which launched as a PS5 exclusive, are currently under consideration.

Stellar Blade PS5 Sale

According to a report from Korean mall GameMeca (via VGC ), Stellar Blade is estimated to have sold over one million copies since its April 26 launch. “Since its release, it has topped the sales charts in major console markets such as the United States and the United Kingdom, with cumulative sales estimated to exceed 1 million copies,” Shift Up CFO Ahn Jae-woo was quoted as saying by the publication. .

According to Shift Up, Stellar Blade’s May sales were 15.7 billion Korean won (roughly Rs. 94.3 crore), but the revenue only matched the amount the studio received from publisher Sony.

Stellar Blade PC Version

At the press conference, the developer also discussed its plans for a PC version of Stellar Blade. Published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the game launched exclusively on PS5. “It was released as a PS5 exclusive, but the number of PS5 distributions and activation levels were not as high as PS4,” the CFO was quoted as saying in the report. “And recently, the main consumer of AAA games has moved to PC. We are currently looking at the PC version of Stellar Blade and if we release the PC version, we expect the value of the IP to increase again,” he added.

Sony has maintained a two-year delay for its exclusive console games on PC. Many of its popular first-party franchises, such as God of War and Spider-Man, made their way to PC after a period of console exclusivity. The PlayStation-exclusive Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut was recently released on May 16 for PC. The open-world action-adventure became PlayStation’s biggest single-player launch on Steam.

As such, we can expect Stellar Blade to eventually make its way to PC after launching exclusively on PS5. However, Shift Up reportedly did not provide a timeline for the game’s launch on PC. “We are reviewing the PC version of Stellar Blade and ask you to understand that we cannot tell you the exact time or not because we have a contractual relationship,” the report quoted the studio’s CFO as saying.
