Samsung introduced Galaxy AI, a suite of artificial intelligence (AI) for its devices with the Galaxy S24 series in January. At the time, the South Korean tech conglomerate mentioned in the footnotes of its press release that some of its AI features would be free to use by the end of 2025, casting doubt on their future availability. At the unveiling of the Galaxy S24 FE, Samsung confirmed again that it may charge for some features by the end of next year.
Samsung Galaxy AI functions will become paid
According to a report by SamMobile, the footnotes of the press release for the global launch of the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE contained text referring to the future of Galaxy AI features. The report quotes Samsung as saying, “In late 2025, certain AI features may be charged.”
Gadgets 360 staff was unable to locate the text in the releases, suggesting that it may have been deleted or changed. However, it does say that Galaxy AI features will be available for free until the end of 2025 on supported Samsung models, with availability depending on region — similar to announcements made at the launch of the Galaxy S24 series in January and the sophisticated Z series of smartphones in July.
In recent months, Samsung has rolled out Galaxy AI features to smartphones other than its flagships. This applies to Fan Edition (FE) models as well as tablets. Reports also suggest that a few A-series phones might get them as well.
Galaxy AI features
One of the most notable features of Samsung’s AI suite is Note Assist, which can help record, transcribe and summarize audio. There’s also a Sketch-to-Image feature that’s capable of generating images based on user-created drawings or doodles in Notes or photos in the Gallery app.
Circle to Search is another part of Galaxy AI, although it is not exclusive. It is a visual search tool that allows the user to highlight any part of the screen and search for it on the Internet. Meanwhile, the PDF Overlay Translation feature can translate and overlay text into PDF files.
