Nothing will launch its first Community Edition smartphone later this month, brand chief Carl Pei confirmed on Tuesday. The upcoming phone is the culmination of the Nothing Phone 2a Community Edition project, which began in March of this year. As part of this initiative, the British brand took design, wallpaper and packaging ideas from the community. The original Nothing Phone 2a was launched earlier this year with a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro SoC under the hood.
Via X, Nothing has announced that it will launch the Nothing Phone 2a Community Edition smartphone in its next quarterly update scheduled for October 30 at 11:00 GMT (4:30 PM IST).
For starters, the development of Nothing Phone 2a Community Edition started in March after the official launch of Nothing Phone 2a. The project, where users are invited to create a special version of the Phone 2a, lasted more than six months and included four stages. The first phase focused on the hardware design, the second on the wallpapers, the third on the packaging for the new phone, and finally the last phase focused on the marketing campaigns.
Nothing has listed the winners of the Nothing Community Edition project on its website. The final design of the Nothing Phone 2a Community Edition features a Phosphorescence concept with a green coating that glows in the dark. Wallpaper, packaging and marketing campaigns share a similar theme.
Apart from the new design, wallpaper and packaging, the internals of the Nothing Phone 2a Community Edition are expected to be identical to the standard Phone 2a.
Nothing Phone 2a Price in India, Specifications
The 2a phone was officially launched in India in March at a price of Rs. 23,999 for the base 8GB + 128GB RAM and storage configuration. It is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro SoC and features a 6.7-inch Full HD+ (1080×2412 pixels) AMOLED display with an adaptive refresh rate of 30Hz to 120Hz. It flaunts dual 50MP dual cameras on the back and has a 32MP selfie camera. The design of the phone meets the IP54 standard.
The Phone 2a is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with support for 45W fast charging.
