Motorola has re-introduced the elusive Moto X50 Ultra, which may bring a few new generative artificial intelligence (AI) features over the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra. The company first mentioned the smartphone in February in a post on Weibo. Recently, the AI smartphone was teased again in a video where the brand also mentioned the Formula 1 Grand Prix held in China on Sunday. The publication led to speculation that the smartphone could be unveiled during or after the event. But it was not so. Some reports suggest that the Moto X50 Ultra could be unveiled in May.
On April 20, the company unveiled the smartphone in two separate posts on Weibo (via GSMArena). The first post shared an image of a smartphone next to a poster for an F1 Grand Prix event. In particular, Lenovo, the parent company of Motorola, is one of the sponsors of the event. In a post, the brand said (translated via Google): “Experience the speed and passion with the #motoX50 Ultra AI #motoAI mobile phone coming soon.”
Motorola also posted another video showing the smartphone from different angles and a shot of the Grand Prix with the caption “shot on #motoX50 Ultra AI”. In terms of design, the phone looks identical to the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra that was unveiled globally last week. It has also been introduced in a wood back option, which is also available for the Edge 50 Ultra. Despite the similar design, it is possible that the X50 Ultra may have some internal changes.
Additionally, Motorola is calling the smartphone an “artificial intelligence phone,” a first for the brand. The company has packed its Edge 50 Ultra phone with some generative AI features such as a wallpaper generator and using AI to customize the camera. However, the phone was not marketed as an AI smartphone. This led to the belief that the Moto X50 Ultra could have more AI features and related hardware.
Unveiled globally last week, the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra features a 6.7-inch Full HD+ (1220 x 2712 pixels) pOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and a maximum brightness of 2500 nits. Under the hood, it features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 built-in storage. It sports a triple rear camera setup with a 50-megapixel primary sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 64-megapixel telephoto lens.
