Meta AI, the company’s artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, has started rolling out in India. The chatbot will be available on all Meta-owned platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and Messenger, as well as on the meta.ai website. The chatbot is powered by the company’s in-house Llama 3 Large Language Model (LLM), which launched in April. The social media giant also released the Meta AI chatbot in several countries just days after launching the new AI model.
In an editorial, Meta announced the launch of its AI chatbot in India. Although it has started rolling out in the country, it will take a few more days before the feature becomes visible to everyone.
While the company has not explained the reason for the delayed launch in India, it is believed to be due to the general elections taking place in the country. With its rollout, users will soon see a blue-pink ring in the search bar of Meta-owned apps. Tapping on it will take the user to the AI in a separate chat, where the user can chat, ask questions, or generate images. In WhatsApp, AI can also be added to groups and can interact with the messages in which it is tagged. Namely, Meta AI can access Google and Bing to answer queries that require running a web search.
Meta says AI can be used to recommend certain restaurants, plan trips, help with homework, write code, get reviews on a wide range of topics, as well as generate emails, messages, letters, essays and more.
In addition to being able to access it in a dedicated chat, users will also be able to use it when scrolling posts on Facebook. Each post will be accompanied by a Ask Meta AI icon that you can tap to get more information about the content of the post. Currently, the feature is available for free and users only need an account on any of the Meta platforms to access it.
