Chinese PC maker Lenovo may launch a new tablet with a sliding screen in 2025, according to a recent report. The screen would reportedly be supplied by Samsung. Samsung has already shown ongoing developments in its display technology at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024, with foldable, rollable and sliding displays on display. Following the introduction of foldable displays with the Lenovo X1 Fold, a report speculates that a foldable display could be found on a new tablet that Lenovo plans to introduce next year.

According to an X post by Ross Young of research firm Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), the hybrid tablet is rumored to have a 13-inch Samsung-made display that could stretch to 17 inches. At CES 2024, Samsung unveiled a new screen technology with a hybrid sliding and rolling panel it calls Flex Hybrid. It can be folded similar to Samsung’s Fold phones, and it also offers the option of being pulled out. However, it is not clear if this is the same panel that could make its way to the alleged Lenovo tablet.
The report hints that the tablet should go on sale in the second quarter of 2025. If true, then Lenovo would become the first company to introduce sliding tablets aimed at consumers, with only concepts and prototypes presented so far.
Young also suggested that the talking tablet is being developed as a hybrid – meaning it could function as both a tablet and a laptop. It would also reportedly support a stylus function similar to many Samsung smartphones and tablets.
This development comes just days after Samsung reportedly unveiled its new QD-LED display at Display Week 2024. It features pixels made of semiconductor material that can display a backlight and a range of RGB colors. Unlike OLED panels, it doesn’t contain any organic material, which potentially means Samsung may have finally found a solution to the screen burn-in issues that commonly plague OLED displays.
