Apple released iOS 18.1 Public Beta 2 for iPhone on Wednesday. It includes features based on Apple Intelligence, the company’s artificial intelligence (AI) suite first introduced in iOS 18.1 Developer Beta. It includes recording tools, web page summarization and object removal tool for images. Notably, this update was released a few days after the iOS 18.1 Developer Beta 5 rollout, and also includes features such as new toggles for Control Center, in addition to AI features in the Messages app.

iOS 18.1 Public Beta 2 update features

According to Apple, the iOS 18.1 Public Beta 2 update introduces Apple Intelligence in Messages. After the update, users will now be able to get a summary of their unread conversations. They can also select relevant quick answers to questions received in messages.

iPhone Control Center also gets new dedicated switches for VPN and Wi-Fi. If a user doesn’t like the custom Control Center layout they’ve created, there’s now an option to reset it to the factory layout. A shortcut to access Apple Intelligence features is provided in the Notes app. Users can now directly access the writing tools instead of the previous method that required selecting text and then selecting it from floating options.

Another notable addition to the iOS 18.1 Public Beta 2 update is iPhone to Mac mirroring. Users will now be able to drag and drop files between both Apple devices. However, this requires iPhone and Mac to be running iOS 18.1 Public Beta 5 and macOS Sequoia 15.1, respectively.

Apple Intelligence features: compatibility

Apple says that all iPhone models compatible with the iOS 18 update can download iOS 18.1 Public Beta 2. However, not all of them will support Apple Intelligence features. In addition to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, the entire iPhone 16 line will receive AI functions.
