Google has started rolling out a reverse number lookup feature for Pixel smartphones, according to a report. The feature, called ‘Lookup’, was initially rolled out to Google Pixel owners in Japan and appears to be making its way to other regions. In the June 2024 Pixel Feature Drop, the tech giant announced that it will roll out the Lookup feature more broadly, allowing users to identify unknown numbers directly from their call history.
Google Pixel phones updated with search feature
According to a report by 9to5Google, this feature is now available for Pixel users. It was reportedly spotted in the Phone by Google app version 132, which is currently in beta. It’s reported to be a server-side feature, meaning users don’t have to manually update the Phone app to get it.
Earlier this week, Google said that the Lookup feature would be available to Google Pixel owners as part of the latest Feature Drop. Since the feature was spotted in beta, it is currently unclear when it will be available to all users.
Google Pixel Lookup Feature: How It Works
To use it, users simply need to go to Recently tab in the Phone app and tap the unknown number. In addition to existing options such as Add contacts, Messageand Historynew look at icon is now supposedly visible. When tapped, the device automatically searches the Internet for the selected unknown recent caller.

The feature was first reported by tipster Assemble Debug in Google Phone app beta 127.0.620688474 on X (formerly Twitter) on April 5. It was then suggested that it could allow users to choose between apps that can look up a number on the web, one option being Google Search.
The search feature is likely for phone numbers associated with businesses that are publicly listed on the Internet, not personal numbers that are unlikely to be found in public databases. Currently, it is reportedly only available on Pixel smartphones. It remains unclear whether it will come to other Android devices.
Along with Lookup, another new feature has been reported in the Phone app – a shortcut to Ringtones for contact. It appears in the settings of the Phone app, below Audio Emoji option, it is suggested. It is speculated that this feature is not widely rolled out and may only be available to select users.
