Google’s Pixel phones are powered by Tensor chips designed to provide advanced AI capabilities and tight integration with the company’s exclusive software features, but the company’s processors are also known to struggle with temperature and efficiency, especially compared to Qualcomm’s offerings. According to the report, the company will focus on developing the Tensor G6 — the chip expected to be used in the Pixel 11 series — to address performance and overheating issues.
Tensor G6 chip for the Pixel 11 series to focus on solving heating and efficiency issues
A report by Android Authority, which cites documents from Google’s GChips division, reveals that the company is aware of issues affecting existing Pixel smartphone models. Thermal issues are “the No. 1 reason for Pixel returns,” while “thermal comfort limits are too high,” according to a presentation slide seen by the publication. The firm is reportedly looking to improve thermal performance to improve customer satisfaction and reduce phone returns.
Another area that Google is reportedly improving on the Tensor G6 has to do with battery life. This is another common complaint among Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 users, according to the presentation, which states that users “expect 36 hours of battery life.” This means that power consumption and efficiency will be two areas where the Pixel 11 series can offer improvements over its predecessors.
New Google Charts Financial Targets for Tensor Chips
According to the report, the company is targeting a price of US$65 (roughly Rs. 5,500) for the Tensor G6 chip, which is lower than the estimated cost of US$150 (roughly Rs. 12,700) for a comparable chipset from Qualcomm. There’s no mention of the cost of previous Tensor chips, so we really have no idea how much Google plans to save by making its chips for the Pixel 11 series with a new financial goal.
According to previous reports, Google will begin production of its Tensor G5 chips, which are expected to be the successors to the Pixel 9 series, together with Taiwan’s TSMC. The next-generation Tensor chips aren’t expected to offer a huge leap in performance over existing models, but they’re said to offer improvements in battery life and efficiency, and the Pixel 11 series with the Tensor G6 chip could bring even more improvements in 2026.
