Early on Friday, Sony held its State of Play presentation where it announced several new games for the PS5 and PS VR2. Parent company PlayStation has updated some already announced games and released some new information. Team Asobi is rumored to be working on Astro Bot, the sequel to Astro’s Playroom, coming to PS5 later this year. The show also featured new trailers for live-action shooter Concorde and horror films Until Dawn and Silent Hill 2.
State of Play kicks off the video game industry’s summer season of showcase events, where top publishers and developers will announce updates to upcoming games and talk about new games. Jeff Kaley’s Summer Game Fest kicks off on June 7th, followed by the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9th. While Sony didn’t announce a project from its major studios, there were plenty of interesting announcements for the coming year at State of Play. God of War Ragnarok is coming to PC
God of War Ragnarok is the latest original PlayStation game to be ported to PC. Santa Monica Studio’s acclaimed adventure game, which was released on PS5 and PS4 in 2022, is coming to PC on September 19, 2024. The port will be done in collaboration with Jetpack Interactive, the studio that worked on the PC port of God. of war (2018).
The announcement came with a trailer confirming that the PC version of the game will receive PC features such as unlocked frame rates, support for Nvidia DLSS 3.7, AMD FSR 3.1 and Intel XeSS 1.3 scaling technologies, as well as ultra-wide monitor support. The game will also include last year’s Valhalla DLC.
Astrobot
The Asobi team finally presents the sequel to Astro’s Playroom, the 3D platformer that came preloaded on the PS5 and served as a tech demo of the new DualSense controller features. Astro Bot is described as a “space adventure” that is much bigger than the previous games, where players will have to explore six galaxies and more than 80 levels in search of the Astro team.
Astro Bot’s announcement was accompanied by a lengthy gameplay trailer that showcased diverse environments and new gameplay mechanics. The game will be released on September 6th exclusively on PS5, with pre-orders available on June 7th.
Concord
Firewalk Studios’ upcoming multiplayer shooter Concord has received a new trailer at State of Play, revealing the gameplay, the world and its characters, and their unique abilities. First released last year, Concord is a 5v5 multiplayer shooter in the vein of Overwatch and Valorant.
The live service title will launch on both PS5 and PC on August 23, 2024. Before launch, the game will undergo a scheduled beta test.
Silent Hill 2
The remake of Silent Hill 2 has received a new trailer that reveals its release date. The psychological survival horror game, first announced in 2022, will be released on PS5 and PC on October 8. A new trailer shows off more action from the game, which is now available for pre-order.
Following the State of Play presentation, Konami hosted the Silent Hill Transmission livestream, where they provided updates on several Silent Hill projects and showed off 13 minutes of gameplay for the Silent Hill 2 remake.
Until dawn
State Play also showed off a new trailer for Until Dawn. The survival horror game, which is being remade for PS5 and PC, was first announced in January. Although there is no release date yet, Until Dawn has received confirmation of a release period. It will arrive on PC and PS5 in the fall of 2024.
A new gameplay trailer showed off the visual updates coming to the remaster. Developed by Supermassive Games, Until Dawn was first released on PS4 in 2015.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins
State of Play has announced the next entry in the Dynasty Warriors series. Dynasty Warriors: Origins. The trailer showcased the game’s massive battles and action-packed combat. The game will be released on PS5 next year.
Monster Hunter Wilds
First unveiled at the Game Awards 2023, Monster Hunter Wilds received a new trailer at State of Play. The trailer showcased the game’s beautiful environments and shed light on some of the game’s monsters. The action-RPG does not have a specific release date, but it will appear sometime in 2025.
