It’s safe to say that Starfield, Bethesda’s space role-playing game released in 2023, did not impress. While the expansive game has found many players, the overall sentiment towards the game remains mixed. However, it seems that Bethesda may try to fix the bugs in a potential sequel. A former studio designer said that Starfield 2 will be “one hell of a game” and will build on the foundation laid by the first game.

Starfield 2 should improve on the first game

Speaking to Video Gamer, Bruce Nesmith, the designer who left Bethesda in 2021, said that the Starfield sequel will address the issues players had with the first game.

“I’m really looking forward to Starfield 2. I think it’s going to be a really great game because it’s going to address a lot of things that people are saying, ‘We’re ready.’ We are a little short.” It will be able to take what’s there now and add a lot of new things and solve a lot of these problems,” Nesmith was quoted as saying in an article published on Friday.

According to the developer, new IPs often get off to a rough start, despite their good ideas, and subsequent sequels expand on the first game’s scope and deliver notable improvements. “If you look at the first Dragon Age, the first Assassin’s Creed, the first game in a lot of IPs, they tend to have flashes of brilliance among a lot of other things that don’t quite catch the eye,” Nesmith said. . “No, they’re not that hot and popular. Unfortunately, sometimes it takes a second or third version of the game to really enrich everything.”

The former Bethesda designer said Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls franchise also evolved over several iterations, with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion improving on The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind before The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim brought a “huge advantage” over Morrowind.

Bethesda has yet to share any plans for a Starfield sequel, but the studio will likely launch a sequel at some point. The developer is currently working on several projects, including The Elder Scrolls 6.

In September, Besthesda released Shattered Space, the first major expansion for Starfield. The expansion, which takes place on a single planet and includes new factions, weapons, armor and other features, was not well received, especially by players. While reviews for Starfield on the platform are “Mixed”, reviews for Shattered Space are currently “overwhelmingly negative”.
