Fitbit is getting a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature that will give users more insight into their health and fitness data. On Tuesday, the Google-owned wearables brand announced that it is rolling out its first artificial intelligence feature to a limited number of users. Those who are eligible can find the feature within the “You” tab in the Fitbit app. The latest introduction is called insights explorer which borrows Gemini’s capabilities to offer a conversational experience to learn more about the data collected by the wearable.

Fitbit is getting an AI feature

Last year, the Fitbit app underwent a major makeover. Google said the new app design is focused on simplicity and ease of use. The entire experience was divided into three tabs — Today, Coach and You. The ‘You’ tab contained all user data and charts. Here, users could also sign up for Fitbit Labs, a new part of the Fitbit experience that offers new and experimental features.

In a community post, the company has now confirmed that the first feature under the Fitbit Labs umbrella is now rolling out to select users. Only users who have previously registered will receive the service. Once they see a feature, they will have to engage with it. Those with access to the feature were also asked to share their feedback.

The feature is known as Insight Explorer. Powered by Gemini, Google’s native Large Language Model (LLM), it offers a conversational experience. Users can chat with the tool and learn more about their health and fitness data. “For example, you can get interesting explanations of how your activity affects your sleep, with a chart that helps you visualize the connection,” the post added.

Not much is currently known about the feature. The community post did not share details on whether the chatbot will allow follow-up questions, whether it can generate different types of charts and graphs, or whether it supports two-way voice chat similar to Gemini Live. Namely, Fitbit emphasized that more such features will be released in the near future.
