Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree gets a new story trailer, teasing the story of the Shadow Realm

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, the long-awaited expansion for the popular RPG game, received a new trailer on Tuesday, detailing the game’s story and interesting bits of history. The story trailer delved deeper into the backstory of Mikella, Malenia’s brother, and offered another look at her main antagonist, Messmer Tepes. Shadow of the Erdtree will be released on June 21st for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X.

The three-minute cinematic trailer delves into the history of the Shadow Realm, the expansion’s new location. The trailer mentions the betrayal that led to the birth of both Gold and Shadow. The trailer then tells of a flame war in the Shadowland, “a purge without mercy or honor.” We get another appearance from Messmer and his destructive flames that left the earth in ruins.

The cryptic trailer doesn’t give anything away, but sets up pieces of its story, teasing a new adventure in the Land of Shadows, a brand new world in the Elden Ring. Shadow of the Erdtree is considered to be FromSoftware’s biggest addition to date. The DLC map is going to be big, with a lot to do. Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki hinted at the scope of the expansion back in February. “It’s hard to answer without giving too much away and with great precision, but if you think in terms of scale or size, it’s probably comparable to, if not larger than, the area of ​​Limgrave in the base game,” he said. The first major expansion for Elden Ring was announced in February 2023, teasing eager fans with an image. Shadow of the Erdtree received its first trailer in February 2024, detailing new gameplay features, story and world. The first trailer also confirmed the expansion’s release date.
