Death Stranding 2: On The Beach was announced at The Game Awards 2022 and is due for release sometime in 2025. Most of the cast from the first game, including Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, and Troy Baker, are returning for the sequel, but story details remain shrouded in mystery. There is no confirmed release date for the game yet, and now game director Hideo Kojima has said that a launch date announcement will be next year.
Speaking at a special launch event for Death Stranding 2 at the Tokyo Game Show, Kojima said that while the upcoming game’s release date has already been set, it won’t be confirmed until sometime in 2025.
“I haven’t given a release date today, but the release date is already set and we’re working hard to get there. We are currently working on it, but there are many things about the timing of its release. We were told it will be released in 2025, so it will be released next year, so we will make an announcement sometime next year,” Kojima said (translated from Japanese) at the end of the presentation.
“Well, like I said at the beginning, I’m putting the game together now, so it’s not quite finished yet, but I’m feeling really good, and it’s better than Death Stranding 1,” he added.
At TGS, Kojima showed off new gameplay footage from Death Stranding 2, which featured some new cast members like Mad Max director George Miller and actress Elle Fanning. Kojima also revealed a new photo mode in the game called “Photo Shoot Event”.
Kojima is also involved in the film adaptation of Death Stranding in partnership with independent film company A24. Death Stranding 2: On The Beach will be released on PS5 sometime in 2025.
