Google Chromebook Plus users will soon get access to several new artificial intelligence (AI) features on their devices. The Mountain View-based tech giant has introduced AI features including Magic Editor and Help Me Write for Chromebook Plus users. Similarly, generative backgrounds and support for enabling custom backgrounds during video conferencing are also available on these devices. These features are powered by the company’s proprietary Gemini AI model. Google also announced that users who purchase the new Chromebook Plus will also receive a free one-year subscription to Google One AI Premium at no additional cost.
Google Chromebook Plus models updated with AI features
According to details shared by the company, Help Me Write, which was previously available on Google Chrome for Workspace users, will now be available on Chromebook Plus models. This feature will integrate Gemini AI into all text fields while browsing the web. Users can then use the text prompt to write reviews, check-ins and opinions from scratch. They can also reformulate pre-written text and shorten, edit or expand it.
Google’s Magic Editor is also making its first appearance on a laptop as the feature is coming to the Google Chromebook Plus models. The AI-powered photo editor can add several effects to images saved in Google Photos. Users can delete background object, generate new background and resize objects.
Google rolls out generative AI wallpapers, video call wallpapers
Users will also be able to use generative AI wallpapers and video call backgrounds. These features are built into the operating system. Interestingly, the custom background video calling feature will work across all video conferencing apps. Finally, Gemini AI will be integrated into the home screen to allow users to instantly connect with the chatbot.
Apart from these, Google has also shared the AI features it is currently working on for the Chromebook Plus. The company highlighted the ‘Read With Gemini’ feature that condenses web pages and PDFs with one click. while also allowing users to ask additional questions.
Another feature introduced by the company will display the windows and apps that were open when the device was last turned off, allowing users to easily retrieve things. A face and movement tracking feature is also in the works. The company said these features will roll out next year.
