Apple releases iOS 18.1 developer beta 6, public beta 3 for iPhone: new features

On Monday, Apple released the new iOS 18.1 developer and public updates for iPhones. With the new updates, the Cupertino-based tech giant offers new toggles in Control Center, changes to notification reports, support for sleep apnea detection, and the ability to share Apple Music songs directly on social media platforms. Notably, this development comes days after Apple released iOS 18.0.1, the first major stable update since the operating system (OS) was released last month.

According to Apple, the iOS 18 Developer Beta 6 update introduces two new dedicated switches for Control Center: AirDrop and Satellite. Before the update, these options were only available in the connection window, but now they can be placed as separate switches in the Control Center. There are also new measurement and level options.

In addition, the update also brings minor changes to notification reporting, a feature supported by Apple Intelligence. The number of received notifications is now displayed next to the stack on the iPhone lock screen. Additionally, Apple Music users can now share songs directly to TikTok from within the app.

One of the more notable additions in the beta update is sleep apnea detection, which Apple previewed when it launched the Watch Series 10 last month. It records and notifies the user of any breathing disturbances that may be considered moderate or severe sleep apnea and may require further action. These notifications can be toggled in the Health app.

Apple has also introduced natural language search to the App Store and there is a new screen saver that lets users know how it works. It now supports the use of descriptive app tags when searching to make it easier to find apps.

The iOS 18.1 Developer Beta 6 and Public Beta 3 updates are compatible with all models that received the iOS 18 update last month.
