According to a report, Apple is working on a new iOS app that could inform users about games in Apple Arcade and the App Store. The intended Game Center will integrate with a user’s Game Center profile and display information about friends, as well as challenges, game events, leaderboards, and other content. Apple is also reportedly considering adding a feature that would allow users to chat with their friends in Game Center through the company’s FaceTime or iMessage apps.

Apple has said it is working on a gaming-focused app for the iPhone

According to a report by 9to5Mac citing sources in the know, Apple is working on a new Game Center for iOS. It is said to exist indecently for the App Store and has various sections including a Play now tab that contains “editorial content and game suggestions”.

The company now hosts games on the App Store, and details of users’ gaming achievements are displayed in Game Center on iOS. The post claims that the new app will use the Game Center profile to display in-game achievements or leaderboards for friends.

Just like Steam and the Epic Games Store, the intended Game Center on iOS can provide information about new game events or new game features and updates. It’s worth noting that the App Store on iOS already allows developers to highlight new features and in-game events.

In addition to providing information about games, Apple’s dedicated gaming app can also offer the ability to communicate with friends using the company’s messaging and calling apps, iMessage and FaceTime. The report did not say whether this interaction will be limited to Game Center friends.

The rumored Game Center will reportedly include support for both App Store games and all games included in Apple Arcade, the company’s monthly subscription that provides access to multiple games without ads or in-app purchases. Like other Apple software rumored to be in the works, we’re unlikely to get confirmation from the company until it’s officially released.
