Adobe on Monday unveiled a host of new artificial intelligence (AI) features for Acrobat, its PDF editing software. These features are powered by the Adobe Firefly Image 3 core model – the third iteration of the company’s internal text-to-image generation model. After its integration, users will not only be able to leverage AI to enhance images, but also generate them using text queries in the app. In addition to image generation capabilities, Adobe has introduced a document preview feature as well as the ability to summarize meetings.
AI features in Acrobat
In an editorial announcement, Adobe introduced the integration of Firefly Image 3 into Acrobat. With this, users can take advantage Edit the image the ability to use the Generative Fill, Remove Background, Erase and Crop features powered by Firefly. The company claims they can “add, remove and revitalize content” in documents.
Furthermore, Image 3 also allows users to generate images via text queries in documents. Images can be added to any part of the document and can be adjusted in size and style. In fact, in April, Adobe rolled out similar features for Photoshop, its image editing software.
According to the company, Adobe Firefly is trained on licensed content, including moderated Adobe Stock content and public domain images for which copyright has expired. To distinguish real images from AI-generated images, Adobe claims to follow the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) open standard, requiring producers to add an AI tag and include details about the creation process within the image’s metadata.
AI Assistant, which uses generative AI to provide answers to document-related queries, is also getting additional features. Starting today (June 18), it can offer document insights, such as identifying trends, answering questions, and synthesizing and shaping information from different sources. Adobe says its AI Assistant can not only answer, but also provide citations with it, making it easy for the user to quickly navigate to a relevant point without going through the entire document.
Adobe also introduced improved meeting transcription capabilities for AI Assistant. Using AI, it can now automatically create generative summaries for virtual meetings. This allows users to stay on top of discussion topics and key actions, according to the company.
