Take-Two isn’t worried about GTA 6’s possible performance issues on the Xbox Series S

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X sometime in 2025. It’s likely to be an extremely demanding game that will push current-gen consoles to their limits. In the past, the lower-end Xbox Series S has faced hardware issues when it came to new releases, and there were concerns about whether the console would be able to run GTA 6 smoothly. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick downplayed those concerns, saying he’s “not worried” about GTA 6’s Xbox Series S performance.

During Take-Two’s Q2 2025 earnings call, Zelnick was asked if there were performance issues with GTA 6 on the Xbox Series S, given that it’s a “lower spec console” and the next Grand Theft Auto game is likely will raise “many borders” technically.

“We support the platforms that consumers are on while they are there, and we find a way to support the platforms despite the different levels of technology. Our labels are really good at that,” Zelnyk said in response.

“I’m not really worried — I’ve never been worried about where the hardware has gone, and I’ve said that many times over the years. Because, firstly, I don’t worry about things I can’t control

“And secondly, I believe in the audience. The audience will come if you have great features. So we just have to make sure that we work on a range of platforms, and if the value of one platform is lost, there’s always another. So, for example, we’re seeing a lot of PC growth right now.”

Zelnyk said that the PC will become an increasingly important part of the console business in the future, and supporting the platform will not be difficult for Take-Two.

“So the bottom line is that we’re selective about which platforms we support. We make the technique work when we can make it work if the audience is big enough to make it worthwhile,” Zelnyk concluded.

Take-Two Titles on PC

While the Take-Two boss talked about supporting the PC platform, it’s worth noting that GTA 6 has yet to be confirmed for a PC release and will likely receive a delayed launch on the platform, just like Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. Both games were launched more than a year after its release on consoles. Developer Rockstar Games released Red Dead Redemption on PC last month, 14 years after it first launched on PS3 and Xbox 360.

During its Q2 2025 earnings call, Take-Two confirmed that it plans to release GTA 6 in the fall of 2025. The sequel to the hugely successful GTA 5 is approaching a year since its December 2024 trailer launch. Grand Theft Auto 6 will be set in the fictional US state of Leonidas, inspired by Florida, and will return to the iconic Vice City seen in previous titles in the series. The game does not yet have a confirmed release date.
