Battery limitations on Google Pixel smartphones

According to a report by Android Authority, the Battery Charging Limit feature was previously expected to arrive with the release of Android 15 QPR 1 in December. However, it was reportedly released with the November 2024 update for Pixel smartphones with build number AP3A.241105.007, which targets Pixel 6 to Pixel 8 devices.

The feature is reportedly showing up in the Pixel’s battery settings section Optimization of charging title. It appears below the adaptive charging option and allows the user to set the battery charge limit to just 80 percent — a move that could help extend battery life, according to the company.

Gadgets 360 members tried to check if the feature was available on the Pixel 8, but it was not. It’s supposed to be a server-side settings app update, which means Google can still enable it for the rest of the devices without the need for a software patch. Pixel smartphones already feature adaptive charging, which limits charging to 80 percent when plugged in overnight. The phone only charges to 100 percent a few hours before the user unplugs it, depending on the daily usage pattern.

Other OEMs like Realme with Realme UI 6.0 and OnePlus with OxygenOS 15 have already introduced the Battery Charging Limit feature — both updates based on Android 15. Apple offers similar features on the iPhone, but with more flexibility. when it comes to setting the charging limit.
