Five years after Death Stranding launched on PS4, Hideo Kojima’s post-apocalyptic action game is finally available on Xbox. Death Stranding Director’s Cut quietly launched on Xbox Series S/X on Thursday. The Director’s Cut, which adds new gameplay features and missions to the game, was first released on PS5 in 2021 before making its way to PC and mobile platforms.

Kojima Productions announced the launch of the Xbox Series S/X game on Thursday. The timing of the game’s arrival on the Microsoft platform suggests that the game’s supposed five-year exclusivity period for the PlayStation console ended on November 7. “Members of the Xbox community, please enjoy,” the studio said on X.
“Debuting DEATH STRANDING on PlayStation 4 on November 8, 2019, DEATH STRANDING celebrates its 5th anniversary today, connecting with over 19 million players worldwide,” Kojima Productions said in a statement. “With the addition of the DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR’S CUT, now available for Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC and Luna, we will continue to expand the DEATH STRANDING IP across multiple forms of entertainment and connect with even more players around the world.”
Additionally, the Death Stranding Director’s Cut is currently available on both Xbox and PC with a 50 percent discount for a limited time.
The Xbox game page lists support for cloud saves, Xbox achievements, and the Xbox Play Anywhere feature. The Director’s Cut version also has a high frame rate, photo mode and ultra-wide monitor support.
Kojima Productions also announced the launch of the game on Amazon Luna on the same day. The title is available on the cloud gaming platform with an Amazon Luna+ subscription.
Death Stranding Director’s Cut, published by 505 Games, was released on PS5 in 2021 and on PC a year later. Earlier this year, the game launched on iPhone 15 Pro, iPad and MacBook models powered by Apple’s silicon.
Kojima Productions is currently working on a sequel to the game, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, which was unveiled at The Game Awards 2022. The game is scheduled for release in 2025. A sequel has been confirmed for PS5, but no official details have been released. on PC and Xbox launch yet. Death Stranding 2 will feature returning actors from the first game, including Norman Reedus, Léo Seyda, and Troy Baker.
