Sony launched the PlayStation 5 Pro, an updated version of its popular home console, in select markets on Thursday. Announced in September, the PS5 Pro comes with an upgraded GPU, advanced ray tracing features, AI scaling technology for better image quality, and double the memory of the PS5. However, the “most advanced and innovative piece of console hardware to date” doesn’t come with a disc drive out of the box. Ahead of the console’s launch, Sony also shared a list of over 50 PS5 Pro-enhanced games that will be available at launch.
PS5 Pro price, availability
The PS5 Pro comes with an MSRP of $699.99 (roughly Rs. 58,750). The console costs £699.99 in the UK, €799.99 and ¥119,980 (tax included) in the EU and Japan respectively. Customers can purchase the attached drive for $79.99 and the vertical stand for $29.99 separately.
PS5 Pro is now available in select markets and can be purchased from participating retailers or directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com. The console is available in the standard two-tone black and white or in a limited edition gray as part of the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Limited Edition.
Sony is yet to announce the PS5 Pro launch date in India.
PS5 Pro specifications, features
The PS5 Pro comes with several hardware upgrades over the PS5, with the console promising better frame rates and higher resolutions. The official specifications of the console have already been made public. It’s powered by the same AMD Ryzen Zen 2 processor as the PS5, but features improved RDNA graphics with 16.7 teraflops of GPU computing performance.
The console is equipped with 16 GB of GDDR6 memory and an additional 2 GB of DDR5 RAM for system tasks. The PS5 Pro has a dedicated 2TB solid-state drive, which doubles the storage space of the standard PS5.
In terms of features, the PS5 Pro boasts advanced ray tracing capabilities that deliver more accurate and realistic lighting and rendering in games. The console will also debut Sony’s new AI scaling feature called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which uses machine learning technology for better image quality.
