BioWare has put the disappointing launches of Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem behind it and finally delivered what appears to be a hit with Dragon Age: The Veilguard. After launching on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X on Thursday, the RPG shot to the top of Steam’s bestseller list, leaving the recently released Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 in second place. The new Dragon Age game is also BioWare’s biggest Steam launch ever, according to SteamDB concurrent players.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Steam Launch

Within a day of its launch, Dragon Age: The Veilguard reached a peak number of concurrent players on Steam of 70,414, making it BioWare’s most popular Steam release (according to VGC) of all time. The studio’s previous biggest release on Valve’s showcase was 2021’s Mass Effect Legendary Edition, which peaked at 59,817 players on the platform.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is also one of publisher EA’s biggest single-player launches on Steam, beating out Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which came out last year and recorded the highest number of players on Steam at 67,855 players.

This number of players is limited to Steam on PC and does not include numbers from the Epic Games Store, EA Play, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.

EA expectations

While unit sales and exact numbers are unknown, the game’s launch seems to be in line with EA’s high expectations for the game. During the company’s fiscal second quarter 2025 earnings call on Tuesday, CEO Andrew Wilson said EA “retains its assumptions regarding the future launch of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.”

“Early critical reviews are strong and reflect the high quality and depth of detail in niche action-adventure. We expect Dragon Age to be a great example of how our blockbuster storytelling engages and unites fans in truly unique ways. Looking ahead, I’m excited about what we’re building over the next 12 and 18 months,” Wilson said.

With the launch of the role-playing game, EA expects to improve its annual forecasts for the third quarter. “Heading into the third quarter, we expect net bookings of $2.4 billion to $2.55 billion, an increase of 1 to 8 percent year-over-year, driven primarily by the launch of Dragon Age and the continued growth of our EA Sports FC franchise.” , – said Wilson. on a call about earnings.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is out on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X on October 31st.
