The Samsung Galaxy S25 series will reportedly feature slightly older display technology to keep production costs down for future phones. While the iPhone 16 Pro models feature displays built on the company’s latest technology, the report suggests that the company’s supposed successors to the Galaxy S24 lineup may not offer the same display improvements as their rivals. Samsung is expected to release the Galaxy S25 series of smartphones in early 2025 with Snapdragon 8 Elite chips.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 may feature outdated display technology to cut costs
An ETNews report citing industry insiders (in Korean) says that Samsung will equip the Galaxy S25 series with low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) OLED panels manufactured by Samsung Display using M13 organic materials. The same OLED materials were reportedly used by the company to produce displays for the Samsung Galaxy S24 series that arrived earlier this year.
This means that the Samsung Galaxy S25 series will not feature displays made using organic M14 materials, which Samsung Display uses to produce the panels of the iPhone 16 Pro models that were released earlier this year. Display Chain Supply Consultants (DSCC) CEO Ross Young also echoed these claims, saying the decision was made for “criminal reasons”.
Material suppliers have confirmed that the S25 Ultra will use M13 materials rather than M14 for cost reasons.

The report also sheds light on the display sizes of the company’s upcoming flagship phones — the Galaxy S25 could sport a 6.16-inch screen, while the Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25 Ultra could sport 6.66-inch and 6.86-inch displays, respectively.
At the recent Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit 2024 event, Samsung Mobile President TM Roh said that future Samsung smartphone models will be powered by the chipmaker’s latest flagship processor. It’s unclear if the alleged decision to use older display technology to cut costs is related to the reported use of Snapdragon 8 Elite chipsets on all models, unlike the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+, which came with the Exynos 2400 SoC in several markets.
