Samsung is reportedly working on a smartphone with a triple display

A report by ZDNet Korea (in Korean), citing industry sources, said Samsung Electronics is considering an entry-level foldable phone as well as a “trifold model that can fold the screen twice” — both of which could be launched by the company in 2025. year

The publication cites a source who claims that plans for the commercialization and development of components for the three-fold model have already been completed by Samsung Display’s partners. However, the decision to launch the product rests with the head of Samsung Electronics’ MX division, the source added.

According to the report, orders for OLED displays used in foldable phones fell 10 percent year-on-year due to lower-than-expected demand for the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 models the company released earlier this year. year. As a result, Samsung has reportedly lowered the “standing plan” (R/P) of OLED panels due to lower demand.

It is said that this is not the first time that Samsung plans to release a smartphone that folds three times. In March 2023, a whistleblower said Samsung was not planning to introduce the Galaxy S23 FE — that phone was eventually unveiled in October 2023 — and would instead introduce a smartphone with a tri-folding display. This smartphone could eventually debut in 2025.

Previously, Samsung showed prototypes of two smartphones called Flex G and Flex S with different folding mechanisms. Although these designs have yet to reach consumers, they are reminiscent of Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate, as well as the Tecno Phantom Ultimate 2 concept smartphone unveiled in August.
