Alan Wake 2’s expansion, The Lake House, will be released on October 22, Remedy Entertainment announced on Thursday. The second and final expansion for the popular survival-horror game will deepen the connection of the base game with other Remedy titles in a shared universe. The Lake House adds a new protagonist to the mix and tells a new story that takes place parallel to the early parts of Alan Wake 2. The expansion, first announced last month, takes place at the titular Lake House, a Federal Bureau of Investigation research station located on the shores of Lake Cauldron.

Remedy announced the launch date and unveiled a first look at The Lake House gameplay at the Xbox Partner Preview event on Thursday. The expansion tells the story of FBC agent Kieran Estevez, further establishing the connected universe between the Control and Alan Wake games. The Lake House will be a completely new location, first described in the base game. In addition to the new story, The Lake House will add new weapons and a terrifying new enemy.
The Lake House will also lean more heavily on the survival horror aspect of Alan Wake 2, picking up scares. The FBC facility will become a house of nightmares, with threats lurking in its dark corners. The expansion will also reveal more secrets about the elusive Federal Bureau of Control, which was first revealed in 2019’s action-adventure Remedy Control.
“Like some of the larger missions in the main Alan Wake 2 game, this mission is structured like a more traditional survival horror game,” game director Kyle Rowley told Xbox Wire. “There is a large open structure for the player to explore, secrets to discover and dangerous enemies to try to survive against.
“Narrative will obviously play a big role in the expansion – as it did in the base game – so it’s definitely worth exploring and trying to find the many narrative objects scattered throughout the environment.”
Players can access The Lake House expansion from the main menu in Alan Wake 2, but can also explore the mission seamlessly during the main campaign. All owners of Alan Wake 2 Deluxe Edition will get access to The Lake House expansion. Players who own the standard edition of the base game can purchase the Deluxe upgrade separately and gain access to both Night Springs and The Lake House expansions.
