Gmail Q&A, an artificial intelligence (AI) feature that lets users ask questions about their email, was first introduced to the web version of the platform earlier this year. It was then added to the Android app in August, allowing eligible users to access the feature on the go. Google stated at the time that the feature would soon be rolled out to iOS devices as well. On Thursday, the tech giant finally rolled out Gmail Q&A to iPhone users with compatible iOS versions.
Gmail Q&A is coming to iOS
On Thursday, the tech company announced the rollout of the Gmail Q&A feature to iOS devices, revealing that it’s only available to Google Workspace users who have signed in to their account on the device. This is also the case on Android, where users will need a suitable subscription to use the feature.
Workspace users must be subscribed to Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, Education Premium or Google One AI Premium plans to access the functionality.
The Gmail Q&A feature coming to iOS lets users chat with a Gemini-powered chatbot while gaining insight into the emails in their inbox.
Users can ask the AI some specific questions about their emails, ask it to show unread messages, emails from a specific sender, summarize emails on a common topic, and search for obscure details from a specific email. This feature can answer all of these while maintaining a friendly conversation.
How to use Gmail’s Q&A feature
To use this feature, users will need to tap on the black Gemini star (or twinkling icon) in the top right corner of the app. Alternatively, users can tap the “summarize this email” chip when inside an email thread.
Users can also ask questions and answers to Gmail vague questions like “What was the theme of the last office party?” and Gemini will be able to find it by checking their inbox. The feature currently only supports the English language.
The feature is currently rolling out, but it may take up to 15 days before users see its visibility in the Gmail app.
