Gmail gets redesigned summary tabs for tracking purchases, events, bills and more

Google has rolled out an update to Gmail’s Summary Tabs feature. With the latest overhaul, the summary tabs in Gmail have received a new design and action buttons. Summary tabs will organize details from all related emails and will be categorized into four categories — Purchases, Events, Bills and Travel. The new update will allow users to organize and take action on their inbox without opening each email. Purchase summary tabs are currently rolling out to Gmail for Android and iOS, while the other three summary tabs and a new “Coming Soon” section will be available in the coming months.

Google has released a major update to its summary cards feature

The tech giant announced updates and new features for Gmail summary cards via a blog post. Gmail has long offered summary cards within emails that contain a snippet of information at the top of the email. Summary tabs will have a new look and action buttons with the latest overhaul. Action buttons will allow users to add an event to their calendar and invite others or set a bill payment reminder.

As mentioned, the updated summary tabs in Gmail will appear in the Purchases, Events, Bills, and Travel categories. The Purchases tab will allow users to track packages, view order details and other information about their orders. With Events, users can quickly find details about upcoming events. Accounts can be used to view and pay bills or set due dates while Travel helps manage bookings and travel details.

Google says summary cards will visually organize important information across all related emails. This would enable users to get details, view the latest status and take action quickly.

Along with summary cards, Google has introduced a new ‘Coming Soon’ section at the top of the inbox. It will show purchase summary cards and this section will only show when relevant.

Updated purchase summary cards are rolling out to Gmail for Android and iOS. Event, Bill and Trip Summary tabs, as well as Events tabs, have been confirmed to be available soon “in the coming months.”
