Google’s Magic Editor and other AI-powered editing features are reportedly coming to older Pixel devices

According to a recent report, the exclusive AI-powered editing features of the Google Pixel 8 line are now available on older Pixel smartphones as promised. Last month, the Mountain View-based tech giant announced that starting May 15, it will make AI features like Magic Editor, which were the highlights of its flagship Pixel 8 series, available to all smartphone users. Now, the rollout has reportedly begun, albeit with some limitations.

In the Google Pixel subreddit, users of older Pixel devices have reported the arrival of the AI-powered Magic Editor feature. Smartphones like the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7, which initially didn’t have these features, have now started getting them. One of the main features now introduced is the Magic Editor. First announced on the Google Pixel 8, it uses generative artificial intelligence to help users reimagine their photos and even adjust certain parts of them, such as repositioning the subject or changing the background or sky.

According to a report by 9to5Google, features appearing on older Pixel devices include Magic Editor, Photo Unblur, Magic Eraser, Portrait Blur, Sky Suggestions, Cinematic Photos, Portrait Lighting, and more.

Some of these features were available to Pixel users before, but they remained locked to the Google One subscription. As promised, Google says these features will be free for all Pixel owners through Google Photos. Additionally, Pixel tablet owners will also be eligible for the same features. According to the company, feature availability may vary by device.

Google’s initial announcement also included a promise to bring AI-powered editing features to other Android smartphones and iPhones, but with a caveat. On these devices, users will initially get 10 Magic Editor saves per month, and if they want to exceed that limit, they’ll need to either upgrade to a Pixel device or get a Google One Premium subscription, which starts at $9.99 (roughly Rs. . 830) per month.
