Sony is rumored to be returning with its State of Play presentation, which will feature updates for over 20 games. The broadcast, scheduled for Tuesday, September 24, will feature upcoming PS5 and PS VR2 games. The announcement follows reports claiming that parent company PlayStation is planning to stream State of Play in September.
The current status is announced
The State of Play broadcast will begin at 3:00 PM PT / 6:00 PM ET on Tuesday, which means the show will begin at 3:30 AM IST on September 25, Wednesday, in India. Sony confirmed that the demo will last more than 30 minutes, but did not provide details about the content of the broadcast.
What to expect from State of Play
The company is likely to show new trailers and updates for already announced first-party and third-party games. Sony may also present a major release from its first studios. The company’s first developer has been quiet lately, as major studios like Santa Monica and Naughty Dog have confirmed they’re working on yet-to-be-announced games. Meanwhile, there have been no updates from Sucker Punch for a while, but one would expect the developer to be working on the long-awaited sequel to Ghost of Tsushima.
One of Sony’s most prolific in-house studios, Insomniac Games, is working on Wolverine, which was first revealed via a teaser at the 2021 PlayStation Showcase. While Insomniac has since launched Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in 2023, the developer has not provided an update on the other Marvel superhero game. The State of Play stream may contain a new trailer for Wolverine, but it’s best to keep your expectations in check.
However, Sony is likely to announce Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, a remastered version of the 2017 game for PS5 and PC. An updated version of the action-adventure from Guerrilla Games appeared on the ESRB website last week. Other early Sony titles already announced include Lego Horizon Adventures, which is slated for release later this year, and the Until Dawn remake, which will be released on PS5 and PC on October 4. The stream may include those games — perhaps confirming a release date for a Lego-themed Horizon title.
On the third-party side, the State of Play stream could include updates to announced games such as Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2, RPG Phantom Blade Zero, and the remake of Silent Hill 2. As for the PS VR2, Sony may introduce VR games for PC now that the headset is supported via the official PS VR2 app on Steam.
The State of Play presentation will be broadcast on PlayStation’s YouTube and Twitch channels in English and Japanese.
