Grand Theft Auto 6 is due out sometime in 2025. Take-Two Interactive narrowed the game’s release window to the fall of calendar year 2025 in its fiscal 2024 earnings report last week. Now, Take-Two’s CEO has said that he is “very confident” about GTA 6’s planned release time.
Speaking to CNBC, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick discussed the publisher’s release calendar, specifically focusing on Rockstar Games’ GTA 6. The hotly anticipated game was first revealed with a trailer in December 2023 and is due for release next fall. . Zelnick said Rockstar’s company, Take-Two, was “very confident about it.”
“Well, there is slippage in the industry and we are not immune to it. However, we narrowed the time frame because we are very confident about it,” Zelnyk told CNBC.
Take-Two’s CEO also talked about GTA 6’s planned release window and how the publisher and Rockstar Games arrived at it. “There are things that can actually be measured, like the number of errors in the title, and each of us will make sure that we have as few errors as possible before we launch,” he said.
“However, in the case of an extraordinary game with extraordinary expectations, it’s not about making mistakes, it’s about creating an experience that no one has seen before, and Rockstar Games strives for excellence in what they do. And perfection is really hard to measure, it’s really more subjective than objective.” Zelnyk added.
GTA 6 does not yet have a specific release date. In December 2023, the game was first revealed with a trailer detailing its characters and setting after a series of leaks. More trailers for the game, focusing on its gameplay features, should be released before launch.
During its quarterly earnings call last week, Take-Two confirmed that GTA 6 will launch in the fall of calendar year 2025. In April, Take-Two announced it would lay off about 5 percent of its workforce, or about 600 employees. The publisher said it will also cancel several projects in development as part of a cost-cutting plan.
