YouTube introduces ‘Playables’ arcade game for premium subscribers: here’s how to enable the feature

YouTube is expanding its offerings for Premium subscribers by adding several new experimental features that paying members can try out. The video hosting and streaming service is already heavily involved in gaming, but now YouTube Premium members can play games on YouTube without any downloads. The platform has released “Playables,” a new collection of over 30 arcade games that can be played on the YouTube app on Android, iOS, and the web.

YouTube Premium members have been notified of new features in the app over the past week. Paid subscribers now have the option to enable Playables on the platform and instantly start playing games without downloading them.

To play games on YouTube, launch the Android or iOS app or go to the YouTube website. Users can find the Playables shelf by scrolling down the home page or look for the Playables option in the app’s overview menu. However, be sure to enable the Play YouTube Games option on the new experimental features page. It can also be accessed in the YouTube app on mobile by tapping your profile icon in the bottom right, scrolling down to “Your Premium Benefits” and then tapping “Try new experimental features.”

Playables currently has 37 games, including action games like Angry Birds Showdown and Cannon Balls 3D, puzzles like Daily Crossword and Brain Out, and card games like Daily Solitaire and Gin Rummy. It’s also worth noting that the Playables feature is available to Premium members until March 28. Later, the arcade service may get a wider rollout to subscribers and add more premium games in the future, like the Netflix Games service.

In addition to Playables, YouTube has also added AI-powered comment summaries as part of new experimental features for Premium subscribers. The feature, available until December 5, uses artificial intelligence to organize and summarize posted comments on YouTube videos with large comment sections. To use this feature, users can choose to sort by topic in any comment section in the YouTube Android and iOS apps. Notably, users can only enable one of the two new experimental features at a time. So, to access the AI comment summaries, you will have to disable the Playables feature.

Earlier this month, YouTube expanded its offer of enhanced bitrate for 1080p video to Premium users. Originally only available on iOS, this feature is now available on Android devices and smart TVs.

YouTube Premium in India costs Rs. 1,290 for the 12-month plan, while the three-month plan costs Rs. 399. One month prepaid plan is available at Rs. 139, while a regular monthly YouTube Premium subscription costs Rs. 129 per month after a one-month free trial.
