Microsoft’s artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot Copilot has reportedly received a new update that gives it the ability to manage certain tasks on a connected Android smartphone. The feature has some requirements that must be met before it can work as intended, according to the report. Once set up, users can ask Copilot to send a text message or summarize messages in their smartphone’s inbox. The feature is currently available to some beta testers and is reportedly only available on the Copilot web portal.
Copilot AI updated with the ability to control Android phones
Windows Latest reports that a new feature has been added as a server-side update, bringing new capabilities to AI chatbots via the Phone Link plugin. It said the feature is currently in beta and will only be accessible to those who signed up for the Copilot beta program.

In order to access this feature, users will need to have Windows 11 and connect their smartphone to Android 14 via the Phone Link app, according to the publication. Alternatively, users can also use the Link Devices feature to link their handset to the service.
Once connected, the Copilot chat interface will reportedly be able to control certain functions in the smartphone. For example, users can set an alarm, get text message summaries, and even receive and send messages. The AI chatbot is also said to access contacts available on the smartphone.
With this integration, users on their PCs can ask AI to check and summarize recent messages, ask Copilot to create and send messages, and even ask it to share contact information for specific people.
The main advantage of this setup is that users can perform several tasks with simple text instructions without having to scroll through applications or move between interfaces. Since the feature is in beta, there is no clear timeline for when it can be released to the public.
