WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new shortcut button for quick replies to video notes

In 2023, WhatsApp introduced Instant Video Notes, allowing users to record and send 60-second video messages to others directly in the chat. The instant messaging platform is now enhancing that feature by enabling quick replies, according to the report. The new option is said to be spotted in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android. This development comes just days after it was revealed that a new dialer in the Calls tab app is also being worked on.

Shortcut for quick replies to video notes

According to feature tracker WABetaInfo, the new icon now appears alongside the instant video message feature. This is said to allow the user to quickly reply to the sender. The feature is reported in WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.24.14.5.

Currently, users have to manually open the message menu to reply to a specific video message. However, it is speculated that the update will make this process faster and more convenient with the new quick reply option. Instead of going through menus, users can simply tap an icon and reply to the sender without interrupting the flow of the conversation.

The feature tracker claims that new quick replies for the Instant Video Notes option are available to some beta testers using the latest version of WhatsApp for Android beta through the Google Play Beta program. Gadgets 360 staff members have been able to access this feature, with a new quick reply button now appearing next to a video message.

New dial in the app

WhatsApp is also reportedly developing another feature aimed at improving the calling experience – a new in-app dialer. It is said to appear as a floating action button (FAB) on the Calls tab. With this feature, users can even make calls to numbers that are not saved on the smartphone.

Furthermore, it is also speculated to allow users to save contacts from the dialer to the smartphone’s address book, either as a new contact or an addition to an existing one. It can also offer the ability to check if a particular number is registered on WhatsApp.
