The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to get two camera sensor updates

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to be the flagship smartphone in the Galaxy S25 series when it launches. While the smartphone is still some time away from its launch, new leaks continue to spill tiny details about it. A new leak now claims that the Ultra variant could get two new sensors, improving the ultra-wide and telephoto camera capabilities. Meanwhile, a previous report claimed that the upcoming phone could feature the same 200-megapixel primary camera as its predecessor.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will get new camera sensors

According to a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) by Sperandio4Tech, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra’s ultra-wide and telephoto sensors could be getting an upgrade. The insider claims that the existing ultra-wide-angle sensor on the Galaxy S24 Ultra will be replaced with a “new version of the 1/2.76-inch JN1 sensor.” This new sensor is said to be smaller than its predecessor. Additionally, the poster claimed that the sensor resolution could be increased to 50 megapixels as opposed to the current 12 megapixels. The name of the new sensor has not been disclosed.

In the second update, the telephoto lens is also expected to get a new “1/3-inch Isocell sensor,” which may be slightly larger than the current one. The whistleblower claims that its resolution will also be increased to 50 megapixels as opposed to the 10 megapixels of its predecessor. Optical zoom is said to remain unchanged at 3x. In addition, he also said that new algorithms are in the works for the smartphone, but did not share any details about what those algorithms will do.

Earlier this week, a report claimed that the Galaxy S25 Ultra could continue with its quad-camera setup, with the main 200-megapixel sensor likely to remain the same. It is not known if the periscope with 5x optical zoom will get any updates or not.

The same report also suggested that the vanilla Samsung Galaxy S25’s primary rear camera could be the same 50-megapixel sensor as the existing model. If true, it will be the fourth generation smartphone with the same resolution.
