2K says it’s gearing up to announce a Mafia series

The developer of Mafia Hangar 13 has been working on the next game in the franchise for several years. There have been few official updates and information about the new Mafia title since its existence was confirmed in 2022. The game was originally rumored to be a prequel, with plans to run it on Unreal Engine 5. Now, almost two years after the untitled Mafia game was first confirmed, publisher 2K is reportedly close to officially announcing the series.

A reliable gaming industry insider has claimed that the Take-Two subsidiary is set to deliver an update to the Mafia series. In a post on X Tuesday, video game researcher @Kurakasis said 2K is gearing up to announce Mafia. “I can tell you that a few days ago Take-Two started preparing to announce the Mafia series,” they said.

The insider said it’s hard to say when 2K will announce it, but we could see something in about three to four weeks, according to the previously leaked reveal timeline. It’s hard for me to put a time frame, but with Judah I saw them preparing for the new trailer about 3-4 weeks before it comes out, so… soon,” Kourakasis said.

The same leak previously reported the reveal of Judas, a first-person shooter from Take-Two-owned studio Ghost Story Games. The game was announced in an official trailer at The Game Awards 2022.

Kourakasis, however, cautioned that the Mafia series announcement would not necessarily be related to Mafia 4. It could also be a next-gen update to Mafia: Trilogy, which includes a remake of Mafia: Definitive Edition, a remaster of Mafia 2 and a port of Mafia 3 or something completely different.

However, with Hangar 13 confirmed for 2022, the next Mafia game will most likely be a new title in the series rather than a next-gen update. It is still unclear whether the upcoming game will continue the story of 2016’s Mafia 3 or be a prequel to the previous Mafia games.

Later this month, maker Mafia Hangar 13 is also launching TopSpin 2K25, a revival of the popular tennis video game series. The tennis simulator will be released on April 26 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, and PC.

Back in August 2022, Hangar 13 confirmed that a new Mafia game was in development. The general director of the studio, Roman Hladik, said at the time that “several years” remained before the official presentation of the new project.
